[22 June 2020] The United Nations International Day of the Tropics celebrates the extraordinary diversity of the tropics while highlighting unique challenges and opportunities nations of the Tropics face.
In celebration of the International Day of the tropics, AfricaHacks is curating a virtual event, Creativity under the tropics, on June 28th to bring forward progress made across the tropics, share tropical stories and expertise, and acknowledge the region’s diversity and potential.
The focus will be on the human system in tropical nations. During this pandemic, we face a variety of challenges that demand focused attention across a range of development indicators and data to achieve sustainable development.
- By 2050, the region will host most of the world’s people and two-thirds of its children; as such, we have started a Fundraiser to prepare African Youth for the future of work and living
- At AfricaHacks, we have incubated companies that are providing solutions to address seven sustainable developments goals : (3) good health and wellbeing, (4) quality education, (5) gender equality, (7) affordable and clean energy, (11) sustainable cities and communities, (13) climate action,
Watch and hear from renowned speakers, entrepreneurs, personalities, artists, and government officials of tropical descent to build a more substantial region under the tropics.
The virtual International Day of the tropics event will serve as a global call to action within the tropics region to come together as one and to continue to build under the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

We are a platform that accelerates Africa’s technology creativity so that any young African can use technology to make their lives, that of their family or the world better. From our tech competitions, AfricaHacks discovers some of Africa’s best talent and brightest ideas. We do this with our incubation program where we create companies across all African countries and for people of African descent across the world. AfricaHacks enables young Africans to build their skills and get jobs by providing the resources that they need for personal, professional, and financial growth.
